My Story

I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work of JDRF Australia and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in JDRF One Walk Qld & NT 2016. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about JDRF Australia, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

This event means a lot to me because my daughter, Freya was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was only 11 months old. She is now 7 and has achieved amazing things over the past 7 years. But every day she lives with at least 5 insulin injections as well as blood tests every 2 - 3 hours... all day and all night.

In the past 7 years Freya has had more than 12,000 injections of insulin and had her blood tested more than 18,000 times - that is more than 18,000 finger pricks!

Freya is active, happy and healthy; but she is most certainly impacted by diabetes. She has missed school, been unable to compete in sporting or dancing events to her full ability due to a hypo (low) and always has to be conscious of her blood glucose level and count the carbohydrate (as well as fat, fibre, sugar) in everything she eats to balance her insulin levels and physical activity.

What we would like more than anything for Freya is a cure - but in the meantime we would like for people to understand what it means to have diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is not caused by diet or lifestyle and there is currently no cure.
